The Not For Profit has announced the closure of their 45-bed St Lawrence aged care home in Harden, 340km southwest of Sydney, within months.
In a statement, the provider that the demand for aged care beds in the area had fallen below the industry average with 10 beds vacant, prompting the closure of the home.
With 35 current residents, that is an occupancy rate of 77.7%, well below the national average of 88.3% according to the Productivity Commission.
The statement also cited a shortage of regional and rural health professionals and aged care staff as a key reason for the move.
“SCC remains committed to our mission of providing quality care services to regional NSW, including the Hilltops area. Consequently, we will maximise our focus on our Young and Cootamundra homes,” it read.
SCC confirmed they would not close the home until all 35 residents had found new accommodation.
