St Basil’s NSW/ACT will close its aged care home at Annandale, in Sydney’s Inner West, with more than 40 residents to be moved.
The home – formerly known as Sister Dorothea Village – has twice been knocked back for demolition and replacement with residential buildings in an area where the number of aged care beds is in decline.
According to James Jordan (pictured), Chairman of St Basil’s NSW/ACT, the closure is in line with the provider’s goal of providing “quality care for residents and staff in a safe living environment”.
“The building was built in the 1970s and is no longer fit for purpose. Our priority now is to ensure the wellbeing and care of our residents is maintained to the highest possible standard while we look at opportunities to rehouse them within our other facilities or other local aged care providers,” he said.
“Our team will be working closely with the residents and their families including relevant authorities to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible for them.”
St Basil’s NSW/ACT, which operates under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, has five other aged care homes in Sydney at Kensington, Kogarah, Lakemba, Miranda, and Randwick; it also has independent living units at Miranda and Randwick, and services Home Care Packages.
