UniSA plots $500M redevelopment with aged care training campus

1 min read

Under the Enterprise25 strategic plan to 2025, the University plans to transform its Magill campus, 8km from the Adelaide CBD, into an aged care facility for “training, innovating and transforming practice” in partnership with an aged care provider.

Nursing Vice-Chancellor David Lloyd said nursing, gerontology, physiotherapy and psychology students will also be able to specialise in aged care within their degrees.

If the plan for the aged care home is approved – and a possible merger with the University of Adelaide rejected – construction could start as soon as 2020.

UniSA is one of several Australian universities considered to be leaders in aged care. La Trobe University is planning a $400 million healthcare hub with an aged care facility, private hospital and childcare on its Bundoora campus in Melbourne, while Lendlease is partnering with the University of Wollongong to create a $500 million health, aged care and retirement living precinct at its Innovation Campus.
