Work will begin this month on building two 15-bed interconnected cottages for Not For Profit charity HammondCare to care for people with dementia in the town of Scone in the NSW Upper Hunter.
The development, which was approved by Upper Hunter Shire Council, will be next to HammondCare’s retirement village Strathearn House, and will allow the existing 1980s aged care homes known as Strathearn Village to be retired.
Residents will move to the four-year-old Strathearn House or the new care home, depending on their needs.
“HammondCare has been a leading provider of dementia care for more than 25 years and the new cottage-style home in Scone will benefit from this experience as it provides an enabling, therapeutic environment for people with dementia,” said HammondCare CEO Michael Baird.
