The nation’s largest aged care provider has lodged a development application for a vertical village of 18 storeys on the site of the Coorparoo RSL sub-branch clubhouse, 4km from Brisbane CBD.

The Weekly SOURCE reported in January 2021 that Bolton Clarke had paid $10.279 million on a long-term lease for the site.

The Conrad-Gargett design incorporates a five-storey podium topped by two 13-storey towers connected via glazed pedestrian hallways embellished with planters that create a green spine.

The DA to Brisbane City Council proposes 110 independent living apartments, 27 assisted living units and 60 residential care rooms. In addition, there are plans for 212 car parking spaces and at ground level there will be a cafe and other retail-commercial spaces for the use of future residents and the public.

The plan also includes indoor and outdoor communal and recreational spaces throughout the two towers as well as a rooftop garden with infinity pool, sun-lounge deck, kitchen, meeting room and indoor and outdoor dining areas

“Overall, the proposal provides a one-of-a-kind contemporary, integrated residential aged-care and retirement living community,” a submitted planning assessment report said.

Bolton Clarke Chairman Pat McIntosh AM CSC said in January 2021 that the Not for Profit wanted to double in size in the next five years.

The operator was created when RSL Care and the Royal District Nursing Service merged in 2015.
