Construction is slated to begin next year on the new Goodwin Downer retirement village in the ACT.
Comprising 109 two- and three-bedroom apartments, as well as 20 assisted living apartments, the village is set to be Not For Profit Goodwin’s fifth retirement village in the Canberra area, following other sites at Ainslie, Crace, Farrer, and Monash; its sixth village is in Batemans Bay, NSW.
Units will be built to facilitate independent living, with on-site support also available; amenities will include an exclusive clubhouse, a gym, a library, and al fresco dining, as well as maintenance performed by Goodwin staff. The location is around the corner from Dickson shops in Canberra’s inner north, in a suburb with an aging population.
The village is being designed by CK Architecture, with construction set to start early 2022 pending DA approval; a local community group has already raised objections, with Downer Community Association labelling the plan as “overdevelopment”.
