It’s Groundhog Day: Anglicare Southern Qld and Village Retirement Group to relaunch The Village Manly in Brisbane next January

In August 2021, the joint partners launched sales for the proposed retirement village to be co-located with the Not For Profit’s E.M. Tooth Residential Aged Care home and the heritage-listed Lota House in Brisbane’s eastern coastal bayside suburb, 20km from the CBD.

Only last week was it announced there would be a relaunch of the retirement village, which three-and-a-half years ago Retirement Village Group’s Managing Director Justin Harrison (pictured) said would be two medium rise buildings in Stage 1, each with 23 apartments across 4 storeys.

In October 2023, Retirement Village Group sought to modify the approval granted by Queensland Planning and Environment Court on 13 December 2019.

Now The Village Manly is going to be relaunched as two six-storey buildings, with 76 three- bedroom apartments, from $1.3 million. Community spaces will be on the ground level.

Construction, originally to start in late 2021, is “anticipated to commence no later than January 2025 with an expected completion date of June 2026”.

This is the second venture between Anglicare Southern Queensland and The Village Retirement Group, with The Village Taigum, 23km north of Brisbane’s CBD, the first village in the partnership.

NOTE: Despite repeated calls to Anglicare Southern Queensland for confirmation, it is the Not For Profit behind the plans to build 76 two- or three-bedroom detached and attached retirement units over four storeys as part of the first stage of a new retirement village in Nundah. It was the site of Anglicare Southern Queensland’s former Brisbane North Community Aged Care service and the Tufnell House children’s home.
