Uniting to turn its 40 existing retirement villages into rental-only villages over time

The Not For Profit organisation has announced an ambitious plan to meet the needs of more and more ageing people who are unable to buy a home.

Simon Furness, Director of Uniting’s Housing and Property, said Uniting wants to increase the number of rental units for over 55s.

“We currently provide a significant number of rental units in retirement villages across NSW and ACT,” said Simon (pictured).

“We are increasing the number of rental units in two ways. Firstly, we will continue to include a proportion of rental units in many of our retirement villages including new developments.

“Secondly, we are transitioning more than 40 existing retirement villages to become rental only villages over time.”

Simon told The Weekly SOURCE of Uniting’s plan to double the number of independent living units over the next 10 years to around 6,000, primarily driven by the building of new retirement villages.
