Village Retirement Group stage charm offensive in battle for a new co-located development in QLD’s Moreton Bay

It was over four years ago the late Michael Harrison and his son Justin bought the closed North Lakes Golf Course in QLD’s Moreton Bay, 26km north of Brisbane’s CBD.

Harrison’s Village Retirement Group (VRG) wants to build 250 low-rise independent living units and a single storey 120-bed aged care facility, with 46ha of the former golf course handed over to Moreton Bay Council for open space and public parks.

Last Friday, VRG returned requested information to Moreton Bay Regional Council which means the Development Application (DA) will now move to the public consultation stage.

VRG has launched a website Eden Creek Parklands, which fails to mention the proposed retirement village and aged care home until the FAQs. In opposition, the Facebook page Save North Lakes Golf Course, which has more than 4,200 members on Facebook, stating “we will need every person to assist us by submitting an objection”.

Save North Lakes Golf Course will submit its own objection written by a town planner and solicitor.

Justin told The Courier Mail the community is using the space and “it’s time to lock it in for generations to come.”

A decision on VRG’s development application will be made by Moreton Bay Regional Council later this year.
