Apollo Care buys The Bays Aged Care on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula with a promise

Aged care bed numbers will be boosted and services enhanced as the business without a head office continues to grow and save regional residential aged care homes from closure.

The 90-bed aged care facility in Hastings, a town 68km southeast of Melbourne's CBD, will become Apollo's second aged care home in Victoria. The provider currently owns and operates six aged care facilities in NSW and four in Queensland after being founded in 2017.

“We respect the people and organisations who have taken on the role of caring for our vulnerable seniors in the past, and we will honour their legacy as we look to the future,” CEO Stephen Becsi, who spoke at LEADERS SUMMIT 2024 (see video below), said.

As always, Apollo Care is minimising the impact on residents, staff and families by retaining the existing brand and community. The provider will inject additional funding and its specialist expertise to optimise care services.

Stephen said plans are already underway to rejuvenate The Bays Aged Care, starting this calendar year, with planning for additional beds among early priorities.

"We’re most impressed with the culture at The Bays Aged Care and we want staff and volunteers to continue doing exactly what they’re doing so well – providing excellent, relationship-centred care to the most vulnerable residents in their community," Stephen added.

"We also invited Directors from The Bays Healthcare Group to remain on the board of The Bays Aged Care organisation to ensure continuity, and I’m pleased to say Carol Allen and Brent Dennison have accepted.”

Chair of The Bays Healthcare Group, Brett Gallagher, said Apollo Care's scale, expertise and investment capacity will grow and expand the services at The Bays Aged Care, and the initiative will free up The Bays Hospital to further invest into areas such as its new cancer centre, advanced medical equipment and new digital technologies.
