Calvary Hallam, a residential aged care home 34km south east of the Melbourne CBD, will close by October 2024 as operator Calvary Health Care considers the site's future.
The home's 39 residents will be transferred to other Calvary homes, or the homes of other providers, if they wish, and staff will be offered opportunities within Calvary Health Care where possible.
The Not For Profit acquired Calvary Hallam as part of the 2021 acquisition of the then ASX-listed Japara, which had 50 aged care homes and five retirement villages.
Calvary Health Care considered modernising the Calvary Hallam building, which is relatively old, but the work was deemed impractical.
"While maintenance works have been undertaken to address immediate issues, the infrastructure style cannot support contemporary aged care services into the future without a major renovation," a statement from Calvary Health Care said.
Calvary Health Care has operations Australia-wide and has been divesting sites as it pursues its new integrated care model. The Catholic healthcare organisation recently opened the $154 million Kooyong precinct, which includes the 32-bed Calvary Bethlehem Hospital, 69 retirement living apartments, and a residential aged care home on one site.
