One of the only aged care facilities in Gatton, Amaroo Aged Care in Lockyer Valley about 100km west of Brisbane, will close its doors on 1 September 2023.

The Not For Profit has written to stakeholders saying erosion from the February 2022 floods has made the 22-bed home unsafe.

Seniors Living Director Donna Hart told The SOURCE the home’s 16 residents and their families are upset but understanding.

There has been a “watching brief” on the home for years she said, but a very unfavourable geological report earlier this year accelerated the decision to close the home.

The residents and nearly 20 staff will be relocated to other Churches of Christ facilities.
