There were only 14 homes rated 1 Star (significant improvement needed) or 2 Stars (improvement needed) as of May 2024, a massive drop from 121 aged care homes rated 1 or 2 Stars a year ago.

There is only a single 1 Star rated home in Australia, according to our assessment of the latest Gen Aged Care Data for Star Ratings.

The number of 5 Star homes (excellent) has increased 33% over the year to 72 homes. 

But the biggest increase has been in 4 Star homes (good), which saw a 51% increase to 1,463 aged care homes in the last 12 months. 

4 Star homes now make up the majority of homes (59% of homes that received a star rating in May 2024). A year ago, the majority of homes were rated 3 Stars (54% of homes).
