Not For Profit St Bart's Aged Care Services has lodged plans with the City of Perth council to develop a seven-storey, 80-bed residential aged care facility and adjacent eight-storey mixed use development including 56 one-bedroom social housing apartments.

The combined project, in East Perth, 6km east of the Perth CBD, is expected to cost $69 million with $39 million allocated to the residential aged care home and $30 million for the social housing development.

The residential aged care home will be aimed at homeless people aged over 50.

St Bart's began in 1963 as a small homeless shelter for men. Today, the Not For Profit provides accommodation and outreach services for vulnerable Western Australians at risk of homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma, and hardship, serving more than 550 people each day.

The provider has 146 community housing properties across Perth, and is the only recognised operator of residential homeless aged care in WA. St Bart's existing aged care home, James Watson Residential Aged Care Home, currently provides care for up to 40 men experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.
