NSW Government grant enables new security system at IRT Peakhurst

1 min read

IRT’s Peakhurst retirement village in southern Sydney will overhaul its security system with a $25,000 grant from the NSW Government.

The grant, obtained from the Government’s 2022 Community Building Partnership (CBP) program by the village’s Resident and Friends Association, will cover part of the costs of installing closed-circuit TV cameras at various locations around the village.

According to association chair Lyndon Mitchell, the village has seen “a couple of instances of pot plants being stolen, but nothing major”.

“Since my wife and I moved to IRT Peakhurst, we’ve been keen to enhance the amenity of the village for the benefit of everyone who lives here,” he told the St George and Sutherland Shire Leader.

“I raised the grant opportunity with IRT and explained what we’d like to achieve with the funding if we were to be successful.

“With (the manager’s) support we submitted a detailed application for a grant of $25,000 to cover a substantial portion of the overall cost of installing CCTV. I was so pleased when our efforts were rewarded in early December and we learned that our application had been approved,” he said.

Other projects for which the Association has received funding include the village hub, a library upgrade, and new change rooms at the swimming pool.
