The pioneering program developed by Australia’s largest retirement living provider last night won Most Original Exercise Program at the Asia Pacific regional finals of the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) Awards and is now a finalist in the prestigious international awards held in October.
The program was used in Aveo’s The Parks Retirement Living in Cairns,1,695km north-northwest of Brisbane, last summer to provide continuous weather alerts to residents and staff during a cyclone. It can also be enacted for emergencies such as bushfires and floods.
“Aveo’s Extreme Weather Readiness Program is unique to Australia’s retirement living sector,’’ Aveo Chief People and Risk Officer, Josh Little said.
“The award is in recognition of the joint efforts of our Risk and Community Operations teams in preparing for severe weather and safeguarding the interest of Aveo and the residents we serve.
“We have been developing this program since 2020, it focuses on education and awareness, documented procedures, rehearsed scenarios, and continuous refinement to enhance the safety and resilience of our communities during extreme weather events including bushfires, floods, and cyclones."
Aveo’s Chief Executive Officer, Tony Randello, said the business is committed to supporting initiatives that ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents and employees when faced with the challenges of extreme weather events.
The Business Continuity Institute is a global organisation promoting business resilience in more than 100 countries.
