Calvary Health Care has opened a primary health clinic, including a GP surgery, at its Calvary Kooyong retirement living, health, and residential care precinct, providing services not only to on-site residents but also to the broader Caulfield South and Glen Eira communities.
The clinic is run by Family Clinics Australia, and consists of a GP clinic, pathology, geriatrician services, and allied health.
Calvary Kooyong, located about 7km south east of the Melbourne city centre, opened last year, and includes Hyson retirement apartments, Calvary Huntly Suites aged care home, and Calvary Bethlehem specialist sub-acute hospital for people needing palliative care or living with progressive neurological conditions.
“The aim of Calvary Kooyong has always been to support our residents and patients to live well and in place as they age, or as their care needs change,” said Calvary Kooyong General Manager Shannon Thompson.
“Having the clinic in place is our next step to providing holistic, integrated health and wellbeing services on site for the precinct community. We also hope to have a community pharmacy in the future."
Practice lead Dr Bimsara Gurusinghe says co-located health clinics make is easy to access services.
“I think the more connected Calvary Kooyong becomes, the more potential there is for enhanced health care," Dr Gurusinghe said.
The Catholic healthcare organisation has been selling residential aged care sites across Australia to focus on its integrated care model.
