Baptcare (VIC) is building 193 new retirement living dwellings

The 75-year-old faith-based Not For Profit organisation in Victoria is bolstering its retirement living portfolio with two sites being redeveloped and one new village being built.

It cares for 363 retirement living residents across 299 dwellings in metropolitan Melbourne and Devonport, Tasmania, it states in its 2022 annual report.

The new retirement living dwelling are:

  • The Orchards in East Doncaster, 20km east of Melbourne's CBD: 52 independent living units in Stage 3 with expected practical completion in the third quarter of 2024. Stage 1 was a 150-Bed residential aged care facility and Stage 2 featured 33 independent living units.
  • Strathalan in Macleod, 14km northeast of Melbourne's CBD: 32 independent living units in Stage 3. Upon completion Strathalan will have 95 dwellings. The first two couples moved in in December and another two will be in by February.
  • Peninsula View (pictured) in Frankston South, 43km southeast of Melbourne's CBD: 24 apartments and 85 independent living units. Two more stages accommodating 85 dwellings are planned.

Baptcare CEO Geraldine Lannon said its retirement living properties are co-located with its residential aged care communities.

"We regularly hear from our retirement living residents that they prize the sense of security and connection that comes with the retirement living lifestyle. We are proud that we are providing high-quality, competitively priced accommodation options for this important sector of our community,” Geraldine said.

Baptcare has 3,500 staff.

Baptcare Affordable Housing (BAH) provides accommodation for 348 renters across 191 properties.

Baptcare successfully tendered for two packages in the first round of the Victoria Government's Community Housing Placement Program (CHPP). Under the contract signed with Homes Victoria, BAH will gain 159 properties to manage, and build an added 33 houses.

The NFP estimates that the increased holdings will mean it can house between 400-600 extra vulnerable women, men and children. The new homes that we are building will be completed by 31 December 2026.
