Sydney Anglican Property lodging DAs to renew two sites with housing for women over 55 included

Social and affordable housing is much-needed in Sydney’s southwest and two projects delivering almost 260 such homes have been successful under Round 1 of the Albanese Government’s Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF).

However, as the Coalition is right to point out, not one new house has been built through the HAFF. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese first announced the $10 billion Housing Australia Future Fund in June of 2023, promising it would deliver funding to build 30,000 affordable homes within its first five years.

Sydney Anglican Property said its development partner Sustainable Development Group is preparing separate development applications.

“These two projects are part of a wider urban renewal program across the Anglican Church’s Sydney Diocese aimed at activating church properties with a range of integrated social infrastructure,” said CEO Ross Jones

The first renewal project, which is on the current site of St Paul’s Anglican Church, Bankstown, 19km southwest of Sydney’s CBD, will be a NSW Government State Significant Development (over $30 million). It will include 185 social and affordable housing units for essential workers, seniors, and women over 55.

The second renewal project, which will be considered by Cumberland City Council, is a former church site in Regents Park, 22km west of the city’s CBD. It will include 74 social housing units for single women over 55 and families in need of a home.

Anglicare Sydney will be the operator of both sites if the projects are approved.
