Less than 24 hours before Moreton Bay Regional Council was to debate a deemed refusal of Justin Harrison’s bid to build 250 low-rise independent living units and a single storey 120-bed aged care facility on the former North Lakes Golf Course, the DA was withdrawn.
It is approaching five years since Justin and his late father Michael bought the abandoned golf course and proposed the development on 67ha of land. Facing an uphill battle, it launched a website Eden Creek Parklands extolling the virtue of handing over almost 44ha of the former golf course to Moreton Bay Regional Council for open space and public parks.
“Sadly, this application that has seen over 4,000 submissions, has been withdrawn at the 11th hour and as a result the council, as the collective representatives of the City of Moreton Bay, is now unable to debate the application and recommendation of council officers.” Deputy Mayor Jodie Shipway said.
The council officers “formed the view the application is in conflict with the DCP (Development Control Plan) and there are not sufficient planning grounds to justify approving the application despite the conflict”.
The number of submissions to council is a record. 3,460 were against the development, 341 in support.
