Uniting NSW.ACT planning retirement village and aged care home on Sydney’s Upper North Shore

Uniting NSW.ACT has announced plans for a new seniors’ development in Gordon, 14km north east of the Sydney CBD, with a broad range of services and housing options for older Australians on the Upper North Shore.

The vision is for 160 retirement and independent living apartments and a 90-place residential aged care home, including specialised places for people living with dementia, said Uniting Director of Property and Housing, Simon Furness.

Uniting NSW.ACT has been providing aged care services on the Upper North Shore for over 40 years and research has shown there is increasing demand for more contemporary homes and services for seniors in the area, so we’ve been working on a proposed master plan to meet this need,” Simon said.

Following a community consultation period, Uniting NSW.ACT aims to lodge a State Significant Development Application to the Department of Planning and Environment by mid-2024.

The proposal includes a gym, pool, café and restaurant, hair and beauty salon, library, cinema, clubhouse, chapel, and gardens.

“Our vision is to support people to grow older with ease, dignity, and support in an area that they know and love. The community facilities will support people to stay healthy, well and socially connected with the surroundings landscaped to fit in with the leafy character of the Gordon community,” Simon said.

An information stall will be held at the Gordon Shopping Centre on Saturday 11 November from 9am-1pm.
