Aegis Health, WA builder Hesperia and WA Minister for Health and Mental Health, Amber-Jade Sanderson, opened the mixed-use and healthcare hub Murdoch Square on Monday, and marked the final construction of the project with a "topping out" ceremony.
The $450 million, 1.2ha development, 12km south of Perth's CBD, will include an 80-bed Medi-Hotel, mental health service, private hospital and 137-bed aged care facility operated by Aegis Health. Murdoch Square is the first stage of the WA Government’s Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, a new hub for health, education and technology in Perth's southern corridor.
“The Medi-Hotel will provide nursing and medical support for people who have been discharged from hospital but are not ready to return home yet," said Sanderson.
“Giving them a comfortable environment to receive ongoing care and operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week will be particularly beneficial for patients from regional WA, to recuperate away from a hospital environment."
Aegis Aged Care Group was founded in 1983 and is the largest, privately owned residential aged care operator in WA. It supports more than 2,200 aged care residents, employs more than 3,400 staff, and owns and operates 29 aged care homes throughout Perth and the south west of the state, from Alkimos 42km north west of Perth, to Broadwater in Busselton, 230km south of the capital.
