NSW Govt spends $415K improving the safety of MPS workers in remote northwest

1 min read

The Minns Government will invest $245,000 to improve security at the Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge Multipurpose Services (MPS)s, funding CCTV, improved fencing and external lighting in and around worker accommodation, in a bid to help attract and retain staff to the facilities in the far north west of the state.

In addition, $170,000 is being spent in the Lightning Ridge MPS to refurbish an outdoor area, making it comfortable for residents living with dementia.

The spending is part of the Government's $12 million across 61 projects as part of the Regional Health Minor Works Program.

Both the Brewarrina and Lightning Ridge MPSs fall into MMM7. Aged care homes in that bracket are only achieving compliance with care minute targets due to high rates of agency staff. Attracting and retaining staff is a significant challenge in non-metro areas.
