As outlined in the 2023-24 Federal Budget, 9,500 Home Care Packages (HCPs) will be released from 1 July 2023 at a cost of $166.8 million.
As of 30 March 2023, there were 257,124 consumers with HCPs. By June 2024 there will be around 285,100 HCPs available for older Australians.
Also in the 2023-24 financial year, $73.1 million will be allocated for the design, building, implementation and sustainment of technology changes necessary to enable the new Support at Home Program.
The SOURCE: In recent years, aged care consumers were waiting as long as 18 months for their correct level of Home Care Package to come through. Now wait times aren’t being extended by the Government, but by staff shortages, which, in some cases, are preventing providers from taking on customers and extending wait times to as long as a year, we have heard.
