Medication management solution BESTMED has launched BESTMED for Home Care ahead of the introduction of the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, which increase the medication management requirements for home care providers.
The draft of Standard 5.3 requires home care providers ‘involving any aspect of medication management’ to implement an effective system and processes for medication management.
“Our aged care partners have been requesting a solution to better manage medications in home care," said BESTMED CEO, Phil Offer.
There is also a clear need for improved medication management in home care. Studies show that more than 50% of Home Care Package recipients regularly take antibiotics, a third are highly sedated, and 10% are chronic opioid users and 12% had been hospitalised from falls and only 3% had received a medication review.
“We have seen significant improvements that electronic medication management has had in residential aged care, especially in managing psychotropic medication usage, and now home care can benefit from those learnings,” said Phil.
“Whilst the challenges may appear similar, residential aged care and home care have different requirements. That’s why we have created a purpose-built app for carers to easily record administrations and manage escalations on the road.”
BESTMED for Home Care is integrated with home care systems, including AlayaCare, CareLynx, CareVision and eCase, preventing care workers from re-entering data.
BESTMED for Home Care will be available for demonstration at the ACCPA National Conference being held in Adelaide on 23-25 October. Home care providers can register their interest here.
