The Not For Profit owns Wyn Carr House in Freemantle, 19km southwest of Perth’s CBD, and has secured $7 million from the state government to redevelop it for transitional accommodation for women over 55 facing homelessness.
It had been hoped to start work in early 2023. WA Housing and Homelessness Minister, John Carey, only launched construction of the project on 19 November.
When completed, Wyn Carr House will offer 12 bedrooms with ensuites, and communal living areas for older women experiencing or at risk of homelessness, along with wrap around services including counselling, tenancy services and other supports as needed.
The transformation of Wyn Carr House is a collaboration between the Western Australia Government and Uniting WA, in partnership with Housing All Australians (HAA) and private businesses.
A number of pro bono and low bono professional services and contractor partners including Cox Architects, MinterEllison, RPS Group, Western Projects, Planning Solutions, Element, Arup, Tim Davies Landscaping, MNG, Code Group, Rider Levett Bucknall, Colgan Industries, Galt Geotechnics, Print and Sign Co, TJ Peach and Associates, Braincells, Strategic Fire and Powerledger supported the project.
