Promotional video for a senior living resort has 6.4M views – shame it’s not in Australia

Said to be Malaysia’s first purpose-built senior living resort, Millennia Village in Seremban, approximately an hour drive from Kuala Lumpur, is on a 13ha site.

It is the brainchild of John Chia, Chairman and Managing Director of semiconductor company Unisem Group, who has invested a tidy sum in the project, turning the former quarry land into the retirement living resort, preserving part of the natural surroundings, curating a 1.2ha and offering its residents a hiking trail.

"I believe the video resonated because it presented a fresh perspective on senior living that is often overlooked,” said Millennia Village executive director Diane Chia, John's daughter, at the resort’s official opening.

Millennia Village is a rental village. A two-bedroom suite is available for 7500 Malaysian Ringgit ($2,585) a month, a studio suite 6500 Malaysian Ringgit ($2,239) a month, and a studio plus 5500 Malaysian Ringgit ($1,894) a month.

Are Malaysians ready for this retirement style of living?

John said he is prepared to wait for senior independent living to be accepted.

“This is a long-term play. We are not property developers but service providers,” he says.
