Man charged after repeatedly breaking into an over 55s lifestyle village in Maitland, NSW

NSW Police received multiple reports of alleged break and enters at Walka Grange Lifestyle Village between Sunday, 21 July 2024 and Monday 5 August 2024.  

On Monday, 5 August, police were called to one of the homes in the over 55s gated community of 182 two- and three-bedroom homes after they were told a 64-year-old man was allegedly threatened with a knife and told to hand over property. He refused and the man fled. 

Following extensive inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a home in Rutherford, on Sunday, 18 August 2024. During the search, police located and seized a number of items believed to have been allegedly stolen during the incidents. 

Police arrested 29-year-old Nathan Edwards in Rutherford on Monday, 19 August, about 6.20pm, and charged him with:

  • Three counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - people there; and
  • Two counts of aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence - armed, and robbery armed with offensive weapon.
