Eldercare Goodwood, the $40 million facility dubbed Adelaide's most luxurious residential aged care home, was officially opened last Friday by the Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler. Residents were welcomed on Monday.

Not For Profit Eldercare, which is associated with the Uniting Church, operates 13 aged care homes across Adelaide and on the Yorke Peninsula, and 14 retirement villages in South Australia.

Eldercare Goodwood is built according to the small household model of aged care, as recommended by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety, and is designed with four wings, each with 25 rooms in clusters of six or seven rooms.

The home features high-tech safety features, a full-time concierge, baby grand piano in the foyer, gym, beauty salon and glass conservatory.

Every resident room is fitted with:

  • voice-assist technology,
  • smart TVs with family-connect capabilities,
  • 4D-radar technology for fall-detection and alert notifications, and
  • in-built ceiling mounted electronic track and hoist systems.

Eldercare Goodwood is the first aged care home in Australia to receive a Six Star Green Star Design Review rating from the Green Building Council of Australia. Environmental features include storm water collection and reuse, solar panels, high quality insulation, double glazed windows, natural ventilation, and gardens designed to take advantage of sun and shade.

Refundable Accommodation Deposits (RADs) at Eldercare Goodwood are up to $900,000.

Construction of Eldercare Goodwood began in March 2022, and the home was scheduled to open in late 2023. Architecture and planning was by Brown Falconer with the builder Sarah Constructions.
