NSW Govt plans approximately 450 BTR units near Redfern station

The NSW Government is seeking industry partners for a new Build to Rent and affordable housing precinct close to Redfern station near Sydney’s CBD.

Located at the Clothing Store sub-precinct of Redfern-North Eveleigh, expressions of interest are open for the project, which would operate on a 99-year ground lease and comprise around 600 homes.

According to Minister for Infrastructure, Cities and Active Transport Rob Stokes (pictured), 90% of the homes at the precinct will be BTR or affordable housing, with 75% earmarked for BTR.

“This Government has committed to set aside 30% of all residential stock on our urban renewal precincts for affordable and diverse housing and on this project we’ll deliver triple that target. This will provide much-needed secure housing for renters,”
he said.

NSW is not the only state or territory Government to be pushing Build to Rent, with the ACT Government releasing a block of land last month as part of a pilot program, and the WA Government in August shortlisting three providers for a new project in Perth.

Expressions of interest are open until 19 December.
