Anglicare Sydney rescues Ark Health Care Parramatta after Nine News ‘outs’ facility as ‘Australia’s worst nursing home’

A first to our knowledge. 43 failures – the only standard met was ‘planning and leadership’, according to the report.

The Australian Aged Care Quality Agency (AACQA) had revoked Ark Health Care’s Parramatta home’s accreditation and notified the Department of Health after it failed 43 out of the 44 accreditation standards during an audit in April 2018.

But sanctions at the home will now be lifted after the Not For Profit Anglicare took control of the facility yesterday. A specialist team from Anglicare, which is Sydney’s largest village operator with 22 retirement villages and 21 aged care homes, is working with staff to remedy the compliance issues.

Their Public Affairs Manager Janine Jones tells us their priority is to immediately address the health and safety of residents and maintain the continuum of care for residents and staff.

A 2015 audit of the Parramatta facility had found it met all 44 standards. Ark Health Care issued a statement on 2 July, saying it was “very disappointed” with the outcome of the inspection but was making strong progress in addressing the compliance issues.

“We appointed an independent nurse administrator and a nurse advisor, and implemented a full training program for the staff,” it states.

Their spokesperson told us their four other homes in Sydney are fully accredited and it’s business as usual for them.
