Paul Johnson, who drove significant growth at Not For Profit aged care provider BallyCara in the decade he spent with the group, has posthumously been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for his services to 'aged welfare'.
Paul was Chief Opportunity Officer with BallyCara for over eight years and had an influential career in the sector. He was Vice-Chair Qld Member Advisory Committee with the peak body for aged care providers Leading Age Services Australia (LASA) for nearly seven years and was Community Care Policy Officer with Aged & Community Services Association NSW & ACT for 12 months.
On the announcement of the award on Australia Day, BallyCara shared the LinkedIn post of Chairman Marcus Riley, which said, "It is with great pleasure and immense pride I acknowledge the fantastic news that our dear friend and colleague, the late Paul Johnson has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the Australia Day Awards.
"This is a most deserved honour for Paul given his work for over 20 years to improve the lives of older Australians, promote positive ageing, influence the industry and enhance the systems and services that support older people.
"This includes Paul’s work in government departments, industry bodies, advocacy organisations and especially in his 10+ years as a most valued member of the BallyCara leadership team.
"Paul’s inspiration, passion and dedication live on and his legacy serves as a great example to all of us.
"We join Paul’s family in celebrating this wonderful accolade and share their pride in all that he achieved in the interests of helping others."
