Two brothers who were barred from participating in the poultry industry for 17 years in 2012 were found to be involved in the purchase of two aged care homes.
Gerry and Chris Apostolatos, who were banned from poultry farming for 17 years for starving over a million chickens, used a number of methods to conceal their identity during the acquisition of the Alphington and Mount Eliza facilities.
The brothers used aliases, a family trust and fake directors to hide their participation with Chronos Care, a Melbourne based aged care provider, for the past six years, The Sunday Age reported.
The aged care homes owned by the provider look after a combined 105 residents and have received millions of dollars from Commonwealth funding.
As outlined in the Aged Care Act anyone who has been convicted of an indictable offence or is bankrupt can’t be an approved provider; both brothers declared bankruptcy after the animal cruelty conviction.
Gerry told the publication he was a consultant for Chronos Care while Chris had yet to respond to the revelation.
