The Maggie Beer Foundation (MBF) is now seeking interest from across the sector to push the Government on the “urgent issue” of food, nutrition and the dining experience.
The MBF hosted a two-day National Congress on Food, Nutrition and the Dining Experience in Aged Care at the request of the Department of Health in February this year to discuss the relationship between food, nutrition and aged care.
But a final report of the Congress findings was only published this week.
The Alliance of the Willing will aim to bring together chefs, cooks, scientists, dietitians, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, peak bodies, Governments, and more to work to address the 56 findings and 139 possible actions highlighted in the Congress report.
“We must put pressure on the Government to continue,” MBF founder Maggie Beer told DCM’s SATURDAY magazine.
“We need to work together. There has to be a food culture within a home, and that means having the management understand the difference that good food makes to wellbeing and to the pride of the cook or chef and therefore the positive energy of the staff.”
