Six new Quality Indicators begin 1 April 2023

Residential care providers will be required to collect data on activities of daily living, incontinence care, hospitalisations, workforce, consumer experience, and quality of life from 1 April 2023 as part of the expanded Quality Indicator program.

The National Aged Care Mandatory Quality Indicator Program began on 1 July 2019, when providers were required to supply data to the Department of Health on pressure injuries, physical restraint, and unplanned weight loss as a way to measure aged care quality and provide a foundation for quality improvements.

Later the program was expanded to include medication management, falls and major injuries.

Providers must begin collecting data on the six new QIs for the June quarter and submit it in the 1-21 July 2023 reporting period. (Providers submit quality indicator data no later than the 21st day of the month after the end of each quarter. Data is submitted through the My Aged Care service provider portal.)

QI data is collated on the GEN website.
