Wonthaggi Golf Club, 132km south east of Melbourne, wants to sell 12 of its 42 hectares of its land to a developer with the hope it is developed into a retirement village.
“A retirement village would be great for our older generation in Wonthaggi,” Wonthaggi Golf Club President Rob Geyer told The Bass Coast News.
“I definitely think it is needed.”
Mr Geyer said the sale of the land would reach between $7.2 million and $8.2 million and preserve the life of the golf club. The development needs the support of the Victorian Government and Bass Coast Shire Council.
“We aren’t even at the point where we know if the shire will jump on board and let us develop it,” he said. “That’s what we are working through at the moment.”
Mr Geyer said if the land was bought, the Victorian Government would receive some of that money because the club was sold to them at a “discounted rate”.
