Village operators on alert

1 min read

The excerpt above from an article that caught my eye on Saturday is telling. There is still a large amount of work required to explain the value proposition, contracts and costs of moving into a retirement village.

The writer, retired Professor Ross Fitzgerald, can’t be criticise for having the view that villages and nursing homes are often predatory, and in need of urgent reform.

He obviously believes this, which means the sector hasn’t done its job of building the community understanding after 50 years of operation.

The fact that Professor Fitzgerald is in the target age group and life situation for both products, make it doubly concerning.

In 2020 the Retirement Living Council created the A Wise Move educational campaign. It has an excellent explanation book of around 70 pages in length that should be provided to all potential residents and their families.

An example is this comparison chart:

In a later story in this newsletter we also discuss the aged care bed threat to village operators.

Perhaps it is time to invest again the Retirement Living Council’s A Wise Move campaign.
