With strata retirement village Grandton Applecross open, Chair John Frame seeks a second site

After it took 10 years to see his first retirement living dream come to life, John and his board of directors are not resting on their laurels.

"Now that Grandton Applecross is completed, the Board of Grandton Limited is engaged in sourcing its next Grandton Project," John Frame told The Weekly SOURCE.

"With the cost of construction which has gone up significantly, the feasibility of projects here in Perth is challenging and many projects stalled.

"We will need to source the right location to attract the price point that can make the feasibility stack up and in so doing enable Grandton Limited to earn a surplus to put towards its mission – to provide social housing accommodation for disadvantaged seniors."

The strata building Grandton Applecross, in the affluent riverside suburb 7km from Perth's CBD, is made up of 80 apartments and a 10-bed Private Care Suite; 75% of the apartments have been sold off the plan. All four penthouses have now been sold. Two-bedroom apartments are priced from $1.395 million and three-bedrooms from over $2.8 million.

"The residents who chose to leave a nursing home and relocate in their own strata apartment have settled in well – this was a desired outcome when I designed the Grandton model, believing many seniors do not need to be in a nursing home settling if circumstances were available to avoid that option," John told The Weekly SOURCE.

Roshana Care Group have nearly completed the fit out of the private care suites and the restaurant on the ground floor. Attention is now focused on the marketing to attract residents into their high care suites – a 10-bed facility plus eight premium larger apartment suites for couples.
