The Sydney-based company owning the residential complexes The Lakes Resort Cairns, Cairns One and Bourke Resort, 800km northwest of Sydney, has started work on the Sunshine Gardens Atherton Resort.
“The proposal relates to an integrated community title development which is aimed at the retirement market which the applicant sees as being the most viable for the locality … the proposal is also intended to capture the short-term holiday and permanent accommodation markets,” the Development Application stated.
10 house and land packages, ranging from 800 to 500msq, of 76 have sold and there will be 66 home-style hotel rooms. The resort will also have a gym, large central swimming pool and cafe. It is being built behind the Atherton International Club.
All common indoor facilities would be built during stage 1 and stage 2 would be the balance of remaining lots, units and open space.
Katy Zhou, from GBR Reality, said there had been recent strong interest in the development since earth works at the site began.
“They are doing the earth works and building the road and getting the foundation done,” she said.
