The Not For Profit has announced that Feros Village Byron Bay will be redeveloped into a state-of-the-art intergenerational community based on international models of care.
Feros Village Byron Bay opened in 1990 as a low-care hostel. This week, Feros issued a statement stating the building “no longer meets with what consumers expect and the requirements of a modern residential aged care facility.”
Feros operates two other residential villages on the NSW North Coast – one at Wommin Bay and one at Bangalow.
Feros Care Chairman Jason Bingham said, “Intergenerational communities address many societal issues such as loneliness and affordable housing, and they improve the physical and psychological wellbeing of all. It does not make sense to segregate seniors away from the rest of society.”
Feros Care has issued a statement to say that current residents will be supported to find new homes. Staff will be offered jobs within Feros Care.
