NSW Central Coast caravan park bids to be transformed into 675-unit affordable housing and seniors independent living

Oasis Caratel Caravan Park in Kanwal, on Tuggerah Lake and 105km north-northeast of Sydney’s CBD, was selected by the NSW Government for accelerated rezoning.   

It has a total land area of 53,910sqm is zoned residential with apartment buildings and shop top housing permitted. The intent of the rezoning proposal is to enable intensified urban and commercial development, including high-density apartment buildings and lower buildings.  

Oasis Caratel Caravan Park is seeking permission to use over 71,000sqm of residential floor area, to include 15% affordable housing and 30% independent living units for seniors.  

There will be seven buildings with over 675 apartments, including 93 one-bedroom units, 510 two-bedroom units and 72 three-bedroom units. 1000sqm of commercial floor area is also proposed to provide retail amenities to the local community. 

The site is 800m from the emerging strategic centre of Lake Haven, which has been identified in the Central Coast Local Strategic Planning Statement.
