The closed Palm Valley Motel in the coastal town of Tannum Sands, in Queensland’s Gladstone Region, will become a 21-unit independent living retirement village.
Future residents will have access to a pool area, a barbecue, and a common room. There will be a car park with 30 spaces.
Gladstone Regional Council has approved the plans developed by Beach Rd Supported Independent Living Pty Ltd which feature a material change of use that includes subdividing the land to make space for an office.
The approved plans will involve the property being split into two lots, with the second 1,189 sqm section to have an existing dwelling transformed into a reception office.
Gladstone Drafting Managing Director, Anthony Buenen, told the Courier Mail the gated development would make use of the existing facilities and green spaces with potential alterations to make living areas more appropriate for residents.
